The Committee listserv group is a very active group and is the primary means of communication among Committee members and friends. As of 2015, approximately 435 people subscribe to the mailing list.

People frequently ask to join the group, change e-mail addresses, or withdraw, and although instructions are given to subscribers, they typically are archived and forgotten. This page contains a list of commonly used instructions for accessing the Committee listserv.

FAQ

How do I subscribe?

Easy! Just send an e-mail to Gene Russell <geno (at) ksu.edu> or Danita Deters <danita (at) ksu.edu> and ask to join. (The e-mail addresses have been broken up to inhibit spam bots; replace (at) with @ when you compose your message.)

How do I send messages to the group?

To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to <ROUNDABOUTS (at) LISTSERV.KSU.EDU>. This is called “sending mail to the list,” because you send mail to a single address and LISTSERV makes copies for all the people who have subscribed. This address <ROUNDABOUTS (at) LISTSERV.KSU.EDU> is also called the “list address.”

My e-mail address is changing/has changed; how do I update my address for the list?

Just send an e-mail to Gene Russell <geno (at) ksu.edu> or Danita Deters <danita (at) ksu.edu> and tell them your new address.

How do I unsubscribe from the list?

You may leave the list at any time by sending a “SIGNOFF ROUNDABOUTS” command to <LISTSERV (at) LISTSERV.KSU.EDU>. Note the difference between this address and the ROUNDABOUTS address. All command e-mails are sent to the LISTSERV address; if you send a command to the ROUNDABOUTS address it will be distributed to every subscriber.

Can I change how often I get listserv messages?

By default, you will receive each e-mail that is sent to the listserv. On active days, this may result in dozens of e-mails. However, this list is available in digest form, which will send you one e-mail per day showing a list of all e-mail posts that day. Then if you see anything on the list that interests you, you just check on it and the post comes up for you to read; if not, you just delete all with just one delete.

If you wish to receive the digested version of the postings, just issue a SET ROUNDABOUTS DIGEST command to <LISTSERV (at) LISTSERV.KSU.EDU>.

Are there any rules for posting to the list, and what other things do I need to know?

The roundabout listserv exists to promote and facilitate the sharing of information on modern roundabouts. Discussions, questions, and comments related to that topic are welcome; however, there are a few things you should be aware of when participating in listserv discussions:

— Personal attacks or other denigrating comments are not allowed, and offenders may be privately cautioned or warned and may be removed by the list monitor if such comments are made often or are serious . The Task Force is a professional organization and listserv members are expected to participate accordingly.

— Listserv postings should pertain to some aspect of modern roundabouts; if your topic of discussion strays too far from this area, perhaps the conversation is better suited for another venue. If any topic gets repetitive, i.e. the same point gets repeated over and over, or a discussion tends to be “back and forth” between a few members, it would probably be best to continue it “off line”.

— Personal opinions may be cited in postings, but they should be noted as such; “facts and figures” should be accompanied by documented studies whenever possible.

— If a discussion thread changes topics from one issue to another, participants are encouraged to change the subject line of the e-mail to match the new topic. Deleting the dozens (or hundreds) of lines of previous conversation on previous topics is also appreciated, but please leave the last one or two so it is clear what post or subject you are responding to.

Keep in mind that contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can get a list of the available archive files by sending an “INDEX ROUNDABOUTS” command to <LISTSERV (at) LISTSERV.KSU.EDU>. You can then order these files with a “GET ROUNDABOUTS LOGxxxx” command, or using LISTSERV’s database search facilities. Send an “INFO DATABASE” command for more information on the latter. (Note: Archived posts are listed by the subject line of the e-mail, which is one reason to make sure your subject line conforms to the topic of the text of your post.)
